The Shelter on a Vedic Path

When one is in distress there is the natural tendency to seek shelter and protection, and as long as we are accepting the body as our self, we will always be put into a distressful condition due to this illusory conception of life. Until we accept our true spiritual nature of eternal existence, transcendent knowledge of the self and blissful loving exchange in pure unalloyed love of God, then our material distress will continue in one form or another. So every intelligent person will make serious inquiry into completely ending all distressful situations by seeking shelter through spiritual knowledge of the source of the supreme absolute shelter.

Due to the misconception of accepting the body as the self we are inclined to seek shelter in all the wrong places. Many believe money will solve all distressful conditions, others family relationships, others believe a loving mate will do the trick, some believe their country and its military force will destroy all impending danger, while those with terminal illness or at the end of life are hoping that modern medical science will provide the perfect cure, and on and on, the list of fallible shelters is as varied as the distressful conditions we are confronted with throughout life.

All the shelters we accept in this material world never provide absolute shelter from all misery and distress by providing an absolute solution. So how do we find that permanent solution to all misery and distress, that shelter that provides absolute protection in all circumstances, at all times and resolves all distressful situations without the possibility of them, or any others, ever recurring? A quintessential solution !

For myself, I have found absolute shelter in the chanting the transcendental names of the Lord:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Because there is no difference between God and His names, through this simple chanting of God’s names, one is immediately placed on the spiritual platform - vaikuntha platform - which means "without anxiety". This chanting gradually cleanses the heart of all impurities contacted due to material existence and establishes one in their eternal loving relationship with the Supreme.

This chanting is not dependent upon any material condition as it is descending from the transcendental realm. It is available to everyone independent of religious faith or belief.

I have personally experienced full shelter and protection by this chanting, and daily take advantage of this wonderful mantra for spiritual advancement.
