Welcome to our 4th edition of Pangaea - Generosity along Spritual Paths
In this issue, we will discuss and explore generosity - what it is; what it isn't, how it blossoms and how its many petals are displayed. In this season of giving, this is an appropriate topic for contemplation and application.
The dictionary describes generosity as -
• showing a readiness to give more of something, as money or time, than is strictly necessary or expected
• showing kindness toward others
• (of a thing) larger or more plentiful than is usual or necessary
The origin of the word is from Latin where the original sense was that it was a quality of one from a noble birth, a sign of nobility ( generosus ‘noble, magnanimous,’ from genus, gener- ‘stock, race.’ ) This is how it became to be equated with noble acts because the noble social class, the wealthy class or perhaps a royal class, actually behaved in that way. Although generosity remains a noble act, it is no longer restricted to the upper classes of societies. Some of the greatest acts of generosity have not cost one cent.
A parting thought from a generous soul:
"Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile." Mother Teresa
From the contributors of Pangaea, we wish you a holy season full of generous moments.
